The parents of Kouzuki Miyu, a 14-year-old middle school girl, have been hired by NASA. Without further ado they take off to America leaving Miyu with their long-time family friend, Saionji Houshou, the monk and caretaker of the Saion Temple. Shortly thereafter, the monk decides to go on a one year pilgrimage to India leaving Miyu being cared for by his son, Kanata.
