A Japanese boy named Sakamoto Shunpei moves to the USA along with his father and elder brother, and settles in a town called Hope Town. At first, Shunpei experiences some trouble adapting to a new place, but soon he makes friends with the local kids. Together, they build a raft and go down the Mississippi River.
