Akane-Banashi follows the story of Akane Osaki, a determined high school student who dreams of becoming a top rakugo performer. Her journey takes an unexpected turn when she is discovered receiving secret lessons from Shiguma Arakawa, a renowned master and former teacher of her father. This causes a scandal within the traditional rakugo community, straining relationships and drawing criticism.

Despite the controversy, Akane seizes the opportunity to exchange her informal training for formal apprenticeship under Arakawa. As she begins her climb from zenza (opening act) to shin’uchi (headliner), she must balance rigorous rakugo training with the challenges of high school life.
