The term “Shao” (绍) has two meanings: first, to continue; second, to guide.

In 1127 AD, the Northern Song Dynasty fell. Soon after, the ninth prince , Zhao Gou, ascended the throne in Shangqiu amidst great anticipation, inheriting the Song dynasty and changing the era name to Jianyan. However, within three months, Li Gang was dismissed as prime minister, Chen Dong was killed, Yue Fei was expelled from the army, Zong Ze was abandoned in Tokyo, and the anti-Jin deployment in Hebei was completely dismantled… After so many efforts, the entire court finally reached a consensus and decided to support Emperor Zhao’s southward march to Huaidian and then Yangzhou in a glorious anti-Jin campaign.

However, immediately after setting off, after paying homage to the Taoist ancestor at the Mingdao Palace in Bozhou, Emperor Zhao plunged into the world-famous Nine Dragon Well. Upon waking, he no longer recognized his trusted confidants! ”

I must resist the Jin! But where are my trusted confidants?!”

This was a sincere cry from a soul nine hundred years in the future. Having helplessly inherited the name of the Song Dynasty, he was determined to guide the court and the world onto a new path.

Hence the name “Shao Song” (绍宋).
