1. Li Shu died on that snowy night when Shen Ningxue stole her script and claimed the crown.

She had managed to secure a nomination with another film and stood a good chance of winning. But because of one phone call from Shen Ningxue, Lu Wei lured her to a remote filming location that night and kept her there, tied up, all night. As a result, Li Shu couldn’t make it to the awards ceremony and was treated as if she had forfeited.

Her career was destroyed in an instant, and so was her life.

In her final moments, she lay dying, forced to listen to the film reel playing endlessly before her eyes, hearing Lu Wei call out for “Sister Shen Ningxue” again and again—

2. When she opened her eyes again, Li Shu found that she had become an obscure bit-part actress.

She had run away from home, was broke and desperate, and finally landed a job… only to find out she was cast as Shen Ningxue’s stand-in.

In a situation so dire she could barely afford a cold drink, pride was the least of her concerns. Li Shu took the job without hesitation; she wasn’t surprised to spot Lu Wei on set, either.

What did surprise her, though, was that this time, Lu Wei actually approached her, offering a two-year contract—along with money and resources. Li Shu thought about it for only a moment before readily agreeing.

3. When her true identity was revealed and the now-famous Li Shu leaned casually against the doorframe, contract with time expired in hand, she glanced at Lu Wei who was blocking her doorway and smiled mockingly,

“Miss Lu, it’s been years—hope you’ve been well.”

“What you owed me before, you’ve paid back in full. From now on, bridges will be bridges and roads will be roads; neither of us owes the other anything, and we’ll have nothing more to do with each other.”

Lu Wei, who had always been composed and cold, finally broke down, her eyes rimmed red as she bent down in front of Li Shu and grasped her hand. “Sis, can you forgive me? Please?”

Years later, someone trying to dig up gossip about Li Shu’s wealthy patron staked out a variety show shoot location on the streets of London and caught this scene:

Lu Wei, who rarely showed her face in public business circles, was trailing after Li Shu like an eager little puppy, calling out repeatedly:

“Sis, sis, are you thirsty? Want a sip of my special sweet drink, sis?”

“Sis, sis, your lips look dry—want a kiss to moisten them, sis?”

“Sis, sis, are you tired? Want to sit on my lap and rest your feet, sis?”

Li Shu spun around in exasperation, pinned Lu Wei against the wall, grabbed her collar, and kissed her hard. Her face flushed, she scolded, “That’s enough, stop calling me that!”

Li Shu taught Lu Wei what love meant—by dying.

Li Shu also learned for herself, through dying, what it meant to grow up, and what it meant not to love.
