I, who died of illness in solitude, was reborn into modern-day Japan—a world plagued by a curse known as “Shin,” monstrous beings that devour humans.

Born into the Byakko family, one of the Twelve Celestial Houses that have been fighting these Shin since the Heian era, I was given the name Byakko Yakko.

Though bewildered at first, I grew up surrounded by my parents’ boundless love and affection. Yet, the Shin sought to take the lives of those precious to me.
